Pokhara Valley:
Pokhara valley
(827m.) lies in 200 Km west of Kathmandu valley. The valley is the most
popular destination in Nepal after Kathmandu. It is the second biggest
city of Nepal where around 135000 inhabitants live. This city became the
most interesting especially when explorers found that it is the only
valley in the world from where one can see snowcapped mountains higher
than 8000m. from below 1000 m. These mountains lie in about 25 to 35 km.
Arial distance. This valley is the most famous trekking starting gateway
for world famous trekking areas such as to Fishtail, Annapurna and
Dhaulagiri area. More than 70% of the total trekkers of Nepal trek in
Annapurna region. scenery .There are seven lakes including the second
biggest lake of the country in this beautiful valley and it is known as
the most beautiful tourist valley of Nepal. The crystal clear reflection
of snow capped mountains on the lake really makes the city unique and
adds more features to make the city more attractive. There are several
ethnic groups and the Gurungs who are world famous British Gurkhas live
harmoniously and all of them preserve their cultural features. The
smooth and harmonious blend of natural beauty and cultural attractions
make this city as a unique city. It is only 30 minutes flight and 6
hours drive from the capital. There are around 20 flights and several
deluxe tourist bus services daily. More over, This city is also linked
with some mountain airports. Mustang (3000m) and Manang (3400m.) are
major of them. you can reach in 20 minutes to such wonder places from
this city. There are hundreds of tourist standard hotels including
around a dozen of star level hotels. All sorts of tourist amenities such
as; Foreign currency exchange, ACAP entry permit, visa extension, flight
ticket reconfirmation etc. are available in this multi -cultural city.
This city popularly known as "City of Tourism" is absolutely free from
any type of pollution and city dwellers and their leaders are aware
about the effect of the pollution.
Fewa Lake

Fewa Lake is the most beautiful and second biggest take
in Nepal. Its average depth is 8.6m and maximum depth is 19m. Its covers
an average area of 4.4 sq. km. On its southwest side there is a
protected dense forest and on the Northeast side there is a beautiful
built-up area. “The Lake Side” the main tourist center of Pokhara. In
the middle of the lake there is an island where a famous Barahi Temple
is located. Fewa Lake is famous for its flat water boating. Engine boats
are not allowed in the lake.
Barahi Temple

Located in the middle of the lake, Barahi temple (Pagoda style) is a
famous pilgrimage site. Everyday hundreds of visitors visit the temple.
Different types of trees and flowers cover the small island. It takes
less than 10 minutes by boat to reach the island. It is an ideal place
in Pokhara to enjoy the lake, Himalaya views and the lakeside built up
area at the same time.
World Peace Stupa

The World Peace Stupa is situated on the top of hill
above the Fewa Lake. It is a huge Buddhist stupa. The place where the
stupa is located is famous for its spectacular views of the Annapurana
range and Pokhara valley specially the Fewa lake and the lake side area.
One can drive or cycle near to the stupa or can trek about one hour to
the stupa. It is a worth visiting site in Pokhara.
Devi’s Fall

Devi’s Fall is one of the popular tourist sites in
Pokhara. It is also popularly known as Patale Chhango (underground water
fall). Devi’s Fall is named after the name of Swiss women Ms. Devi. One
day in 1961, Ms Devi was swimming near the waterfall of Fewa Dam with
her husband and at the same time the dam overflowed suddenly and swept
away her into a deep gorge to death in 1961. Since then the waterfall is
named as Devi’s Fall. It is and awesome waterfall just 2km south of the
Pokhara airport. City buses and taxis are available to go to the
waterfall.
Gupteswor Cave
Opposite of the Devi’s fall, there is a beautiful cave.
The whole area of the cave is very big and needs well preparation to
explore it. The cave also a popular pilgrimage site. There is a natural
image of Lord Shiva, which was naturally found beneath the earth. Many
devotees visit the cave everyday. Well-maintained steps are constructed
with sufficient lights to enter into the cave. There is a small tunnel
behind the Shiva image that links the cave to the Devi’s fall. It takes
about 10 minutes to reach Devi’s fall through the tunnel. It is an
exciting part of the cave that adventure visitors have also the
opportunity to enjoy the underground view of Devi’s Fall. Since the
tunnel is a kind of adventurous aspect that one should take care while
being in the tunnel.
Mahendra Cave
Another natural wonder in Pokhara is the Mahendra Cave.
The cave has not been fully explored yet. It is advised that visitors
should have a torch or a guide to enter into the cave. The cave
management committee also provides guide an torch if requested. Mahendra
Cave is named after the late King Mahendra and is situated some 9 km.
North of Pokhara Airport. City buses and taxis are regularly available
to go to the cave. There is another cave nearby Mahendra Cave known as
the Bat’s Cave or Chamere Gupha.
Bindabasini Temple
It is an wonderful and the most popular pilgrimage site
located on a small beautiful hillok some 4 km. North of airport.
Bindabasini is regarded as Shakti Pitha of goddess Bhagabati. The temple
area is like a park and is ideal for sightseeing. There are also few
more temples including one Shiva temple nearby Bindabasini Temple.
Bhadrakali Temple
Situated in the middle of a beautiful forest on the top
of a small hillock, Bhadrakali Temple is one of the attractive
sightseeing spots in Pokhara. The location is superb for mountain view
and Pokhara city view. situated some 4 km. east of airport at Matepani,
Bhadrakali is a peaceful area. it is also a right place for birds and
butterflies watching. A park is being developed around the temple.
Old Bazar
In the heart of Pokhara city, a historical Bazar is
located. The houses are traditional and resemble and architectures of
Malla period of Kathmandu Valley. The Newar Community trades and
maintains their traditional types of business. The old Bazar is about 4
km. north from airport.
Tibetan Refugee Camp
There are three Tibetan refugee camps. One is 2km.
South from the airport near the Devi’s fall at Chhorepatan, the second
is in Prithwichowk and the third is 7km. North of airport in Hemja. All
the camps are worth visiting to know Tibetan culture, their tradition
and living style. Within the camps there are handicraft centers.
Buddhist Monastery
It is also called Nyeshang Monastery established in
1960 by Manangi Buddhists. This monastery is situated at Matepani about
4km east of the airport. It is built on a small hillock and one can
enjoy nice view of Pokhara city as well as the mountain ranges.
Seti River
It is another mysterious natural wonder of Pokhara.
Originated from the Machhapuchre glacier, Seti river runs through the
main city area. The river provides a perfect view of its dreadful rush
before it goes underground or disappears at Bagar into a deep gorge. The
gorge is narrow but very deep that in some place it goes down to more
than 60 meters deep. KI Sing Bridge, Mahendrapool and Prithvichowk are
the main places to observe the underground river and its roaring
sound.The surprising aspect of the river that even during the rainy
season the swelling floodwater does not block into the narrow gorge.
Begnas and Rupa Lakes
Begnas lake lies 17km east of Pokhara airport. Like
Fewa lake, Begnas lake is also perfect for boating. It reflects the
beautiful image of Annapurna IV. Rupa lake is situated at the east of
Beganas lake. A small hillock has separated the two lakes. Both lakes
are famous for boating and fishing. There are buses running from city
center of Pokhara to Beganas and Rupa lakes
MUSEUM
Pokhara Regional Museum
Located at Naya Bazar, 2km north of the airport,
Pokhara museum reflects the ethnic mosaic of western Nepal. The life
style, and history of ethnic groups such as the Gurung, Thakali and
Tharus have been attractively displayed in the museum.
Annapurna museum
It is also known as the natural history museum or
butterflies museum and is located inside the compound of PN Campus. The
museum has an exceptional collection of butterflies, insects, birds,
models of wildlife and samples of stones and volcanic rocks found in an
around Annapurna region. This museum is 5km north of the airport.
Gorkha Memorial Museum
It is located at damside 1km west of the airport. There
are a wide ranges of collection of Gorkha Regiment uniforms, equipments,
photographs and medals (including Victoria Cross) of Gorkha veterans.
Some of the collection dates bact to the First World War.
International Mountain Museum
Nepal is predominantly a Mountainous country in the
world. It congregates more than 1310 peaks of above 6000m including the
highest summit of the earth, The Mount Everest (8848m). Nepal is,
therefore also known as the playground of mountaineers in the world. The
International Mountain Museum provides the detail information about
mountaineering activities in Nepal as well as the mountaineering
profiles and history of all the mountaineers who came to Nepal for
mountaineering. The collections in the museum are equipments, climbing
gears, clothes and other items used by the mountaineers during their
expedition period.
VIEW POINTS
Sarangkot (1590 m)

Sarangkot is situated on the top of a hill, north of
Fewa lake. It is the most popular viewpoint center of Pokhara. One can
get there by a three hours gentle trek from lakeside of drive half and
hours or one hour cycling. There is a view tower with powerful Binocular
that one can see a close view of the whole Himalaya range from
Dhaulagiri to Manaslu. It is also viewpoint for the spectacular views of
sunrise and sunset. Sarangkot lies in a popular trekking route i.e.
Sarangkot-Kaskikot-Naudanda trek.
Kahun Danda
Situated on the North-East of Pokhara city, Kahun Danda
is another enchanting hill for spectacular views of the Himalaya range
and Pokhara valley. A gentle climb of about two hours from Fulbari.
Kahun Danda is also an appropriate place for a day hike. Around the
villages ethnic communities are traditionally settled and are worth
visiting.
Pumdi Kot
On the west of Pokhara city, a overlooking Fewa Lake
and Pokhara Pumdiko is an appropriate place for camping. The mixed
ethnic village below the top is nicely settled and one can also stay in
the village as a paying guest. The trail to the top is good and takes
about two hours or one can drive half-an-hour to the Pumdi village and
hike ten minutes to the top. Pumdikot lies on the way to Panchase trek
and is perfect viewpint for the spectacular Himalayan range from the
west of Dhaulagiri and to the east of manaslu.
Phoksing Hill
The Phoksing hill, south of Pokhara is the best site
for a day trek. It is also a best location for the mountain and Pokhara
valley, such as Naudanda, Chandrakot, Dhampus, Dhiprang, Sardikhola,
Khadarjung, Puranchaur and Armala on the north, Hurikot, Mattikhan and
Nuwakot on the south and Chisapani and Kot Bari on the east. All these
viewpoints are also appropriate place for day hikes.
Kathmandu Valley: Kathmandu,
historically known as city of temples, is capital city of Nepal.This historical city is remained unchanged e the Middle Ages.
Other regal sister cities in the valley are Lalitpur and Bhaktapur. The
Kathmandu valley (1450 M.) is famous for cultural heritage, scenic
beauty, beautiful countryside, ethnic settlements, pilgrimages of
holiest shrines for Hindus and Buddhists. There are seven World Heritage
Sites declared by the UNESCO in the Kathmandu valley (400 sq.kms.)
itself. This city a cultural hub is the center of various
multi-attractions for all Nepal visitors.
Hiking around Kathmandu valley:
Manichaur, Phulchoki, Shivapuri Wildlife Reserve, Nagarjun hill, Kakani,
Champa Devi, Nagarkot, Dhulikhel, Chisopani, etc.
Lumbini: A birthplace of Lord
Buddha. The sites described as a beautiful Garden in the Buddha's time
still retain its legendary charm and beauty. Located 150km south from
the tourist city of Pokhara.
Nagarkot: A resort town, in the
rim of Kathmandu valley, famous for Sunrise and Sunset view. It is 30km
south from Kathmandu. Various sorts of hotels with modern amenities are
available here.
Dhulikhel: A resort town, east of
Kathmandu valley, famous for countryside tour and historical
significance.
Namche Bazaar: Sherpa settlement
at the base of Mt. Everest. Can be reached by trekking. It is a focal
point of trekking in Everest region. Sherpa cultural always adds more
wonders.
Manakamana Temple: A scenic and
pilgrim spot and is reached by Cable Car or half day trek. This is the
origin place of Shah Dynasty and Great king Prithvi Narayan shah was
born there and his processes of unifying Nepal started from there about
200 years ago. The present king is the 11th generation of him. There is
a great temple called Manakamana Temple. It is a famous temple where you
wish to fulfill your wishes. It is located in about 90 km west from
Kathmandu.
Gorakha: A mid-hill town lies
between Kathmandu and Pokhara. The legend of Gurkhas begins here.
Sightseeing: Gorkha Durbar, Gorkha Nath Temple, Gorakh Kali Temple, etc.
Starting point of Trek to Manaslu region.
Mukti Nath: One of the holiest
shrines of Lord Shiva. Reached by air up to Jomsom; Mustang, and then
trek (pony) two days to Mukti Nath Temple. This also route for the world
famous Thorung-la trek. If you walk all the way from Pokhara, it takes
about six days to get there. Ever burning lamp on the water just beneath
the shrine, shows the mystery of almighty God.
Mustang: The upper reach of the
Kali Gandaki valley is known as Mustang. A trekking to Mustang, which is
also known as "Forbidden land", is a journey of remarkable contrasts.
Other side of the Annapurna Himalaya is a stark Tibetan landscape, with
cliff hanging monasteries, which contrasts with lush rice field and
Hindu shrines.
Janakpur: A birthplace of Janaki
Sita in Terai, a region of Mithila Arts and Craft.
Dhankuta & Hile: Hill towns.
Starting point of trek to Kanchanjunga, Makalu, and Arun Valley.
Tansen: Tansen is located 1300
meters on the south Flank of Srinagar hill, between Pokhara and Lumbini,
yet untouched by mass tourism. The greatest attractions of this town are
its ancient culture, friendly people, excellent mountain views and it's
serene atmosphere. Most famous for seminars.
Khaptad: Khaptad National Park
extended in the area of 225sq km lies in the Far Western region in the
elevation of 3000m, is largely a rolling plateau with grasslands and oak
and coniferous forests. It is blessed with great natural beauty, vast
wilderness, very diverse ecology, flora, and fauna. It can be reached by
air/road transport and then trek.
