Everest Area:

The Solu Khumbu region is home to numerous Bhuddist and Sherpa peoples who are always ready to welcome you with a smile. Manis (stones covered with Tibetan Bhuddist chants) and prayer flags can be found everywhere. The mountain peoples have a truly diverse lifestyle and culture. For example, polyandry (where a woman may take several husbands) is still practiced by some of the Sherpa peoples.

The attraction is not simply nostalgia for the early pioneers who explored Khumbu in hob nail boots and tweed jackets. It is also because the mountain is the highest point on Earth. Besides the outstanding mountain scenery, trekkers can enjoy stone walled fields and houses, local foods and above all, get to know the Sherpas and their unique culture.

Treks in this area range from 7 to 45 days and are tougher than around Annapurna but no less spectacular.

Everest Base Camp Grade: 4 Days: 15-16

A 15 day trek similar to the Gokyo / Everest route but omitting the Gokyo Lakes area. This trek passes through Sherpa villages following the direct route via Thyangboche to Kala Patthar. Return is via Pangboche and Phortse villages, which lie high above the junction of the Dudh Koshi and Imja Khola rivers. Treks in this area range from 7 to 45 days and are tougher than around Annapurna but no less spectacular.

Gokyo / Everest Base Camp: Grade: 4 Days: 21-23

This trek aims to explore the Everest region thoroughly. Starting with a flight to Lukla, one must allow about three weeks among the high Sherpa villages and the alpine area below the highest mountains in the world. The route follows the Dudh Koshi to its source near the Gokyo lakes to the west of Everest base camp.

Trekkers have an opportunity to climb Gokyo Peak (5483 m), which affords excellent views of Cho Oyu (81564 m), Everest (8848 m), Makalu (8475 m) and others. From here the trek crosses the Chyugima La pass into the Everest base camp area. After the vantage point of Kala Patthar, which affords super views of Mt. Everest, the route circles back via Thyangboche Monastery to Lukla for the return flight back to Kathmandu.

Treks in this area range from 7 to 45 days and are tougher than around Annapurna but no less spectacular.

Traditional Base Camp Route. Grade: 4 Days: 21-23

This 3-week trek follows the classic approach to Sagarmantha (Everest). It starts with a 7-hour drive to Jiri on the border of Solu-Khumbhu. The route passes through the Sherpa villages of Solu-Khumbhu over several challenging passes and through beautiful forests and farming country.

Once past Lukla we climb to Namche, the main trading village of the Khumbu, where time is spent acclimatizing before continuing via Thyangboche monastery to Pheriche, Lobuche and early morning ascent of Kala Patthar (55,544 m) overlooking the base camp area and offering super views of Everest, Lhootse, Nuptse and Makalu. Our return to Kathmandu is via STOL aircraft.

Treks in this area range from 7 to 45 days and are tougher than around Annapurna but no less spectacular.
